Introduction to the dynamic modeling of thermal systems

Undergraduate course, University of Liège, 2013

Current energy conversion systems are submitted to a growing demand in terms of flexibility. This flexibility requires an accurate characterization of the components dynamic behavior under varying boundary conditions, which in turns allows to set up optimal control strategies. This course is an introduction to the dynamic modeling of thermal systems. It teaches the bases of the Modelica language through theoretical and exercise classes.

Applied thermodynamics. Energy conversion techniques. Thermal power plants

Undergraduate course, University of Liège, 2017

Course content:

  • revision of the analysis of thermodynamic steam and gas cycles
  • gas turbine technology
  • optimisation of combined gas/steam turbine cycles
  • advanced coal power stations: supercritical cycles and power stations using integrated coal gasification in a combined cycle
  • reduction in the emission of pollutants: NOx, SOx, particles, heavy metals;
  • cogeneration;
  • technologies leading to the capture and storage of CO2
